Photographer, videographer, conservationist
Tom Murphy is the premier photographer of Yellowstone National Park. He has traveled extensively within its 3,400 square miles, hiking and skiing thousands of miles, and spending hundreds of nights in the backcountry. Through Wilderness Photography Expeditions, Murphy has built an internationally respected seminar series in which he teaches natural history photography. His clients have ranged from media outlets like National Geographic, Audubon and Time, to celebrities including Cameron Diaz and Martha Stewart. He’s authored five books on the park, including Silence and Solitude: Yellowstone’s Winter Wilderness, which won a 2002 Montana Book Award. His video of the same title earned an Emmy nomination for his photography and videography. The PBS Nature show “Christmas in Yellowstone” airs internationally, and features Murphy’s winter photography and backcountry skiing stories. Murphy feels strongly about giving back to wildlife and wild lands, and works to encourage and aid in their preservation by donating use of his photography to environmental groups.
I am happy to talk to kids about my passion for illustrating the natural world through the art of photography.
