Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commissioner
Dan Vermillion has been the Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commissioner for Southwestern Montana since 2007, dealing with issues of endangered species, fisheries and wildlife management. Highlights of his time on the commission include negotiating comprehensive access agreements between landowners and sportsmen in the Madison Valley, working to limit elk numbers in areas with significant landowner conflicts, and overseeing a successful review of the Beaverhead Big Hole Recreation plan. Along with his brothers, Vermillion owns and operates the Livingston-based Sweetwater Travel, which runs fishing camps and lodges in Mongolia, Brazil, Alaska, British Columbia, the Bahamas and Montana. All of the Sweetwater lodges are actively engaged in sustainable management of natural resources for future generations. For its work in Mongolia creating the world’s first Taimen preserve, Sweetwater’s Taimen Conservation Fund was the recipient of a prestigious Development Marketplace grant from the World Bank.
